Position Description: |
The Flatiron Institute has established the Center for Computational Quantum Physics (CCQ), led by Antoine Georges, with the aim of becoming a leading international center for the study of quantum physics and its applications to condensed matter physics, materials science, chemistry and related fields. The development of the concepts, algorithms and code libraries needed to advance the field will be fundamental to the work of the Center. Over time, the Center is expected to grow to about 50 members. Besides the new center, the Flatiron Institute hosts the already-established Center for Computational Astrophysics and Center for Computational Biology, and a common scientific computing core.
POSITION SUMMARY
Flatiron research fellows in the CCQ are highly motivated individuals at the postdoctoral level with a strong background in one or more of the following areas: theoretical condensed matter physics, materials science, theoretical chemistry, applied mathematics and computer science. Reporting to research scientists or the Center Director or co-Director as appropriate, Flatiron research fellows will develop and apply algorithms and codes, and work to apply these methods to obtain new insights into the quantum-mechanical behavior of materials and molecules. Fellows are encouraged to disseminate their results through scientific publication, mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students, and participation in workshops and seminars.
The initial appointment would be for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. The anticipated start date is between September 1, 2017, and December 31, 2017. The Flatiron Institute is in New York City and is an equal opportunity employer. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
