The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures and the Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies at Swarthmore College seek to fill a three-year position at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor in German with a specialization in gender and sexuality studies.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in German by the time of appointment, at the beginning of the fall semester of 2017. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic teacher in our core German language courses with broad scholarly interests to retain students in intermediate and advanced German-language literature and culture classes, as well as attract and motivate students from diverse backgrounds in English-language courses. In addition to a research specialization in gender and sexuality studies, the candidate should have demonstrated ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in the field. Offering the Introduction to Gender and Sexuality Studies and one additional core course in Gender and Sexuality Studies each year is expected. Applicants must show promise in scholarly research. Native or near-native fluency in German and a strong command of English are required.
