Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry in the College of Science at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale announces an opening for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher in the department. The Postdoctoral Researcher’s duties are comprised of full-time research activities and related responsibilities described below.


The Postdoctoral Researcher is responsible for pursuing one or more research projects, contributing to the maintenance and improvement of laboratory facilities, contributing to the training of graduate and undergraduate students working in the same laboratory, and writing and publishing scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals. The Postdoctoral Researcher is responsible for carrying out the above responsibilities in a manner consistent with University policies and plans as well as applicable State laws.

The applicant must have received a Ph.D. prior to beginning the Postdoctoral position. Experience in ultrafast laser spectroscopy is strongly preferred, although relevant experience in related fields of chemistry and/or physics will also be considered. The laboratory seeking the Postdoctoral hire is a highly interdisciplinary research environment incorporating aspects of ultrafast infrared spectroscopy, biochemistry, synthetic chemistry, and computational chemistry. Candidates with interests spanning these areas of research are encouraged to apply.
