Anatomist/Medical Educator, Division of Translational Anatomy (Department of Radiology) – UMass Medcial School Worcester, MA

At UMass Medcal School, all of the functions of anatomic education are within the Department of Radiology , organized as the Division of Translational Anatomy, which offers a unique opportunity to integrate diagnostic imaging, simulation and other innovative technologies with the teaching of gross anatomy.

We are seeking a Clinical Anatomist/Medical Educator to fill a full time, non-tenured track position in our Division of Translational Anatomy. The successful candidate will have a role in leadership and teaching clinically focused human gross anatomy within the integrated first-year Development, Structure and Function (DSF) course. Anatomic components of DSF include cadaveric dissection, augmented with prosection, model and microanatomic dry-labs. Teaching is highly integrated with imaging; including hands-on ultrasound training, simulation technology including Anatomage and relevant procedures. The anatomist will collaboratively manage course content, scheduling and student assessments. In addition to responsibilities in the DSF course, he or she will be expected to contribute to advanced anatomy programs for medical students and residents, and to curriculum development throughout the medical school (for both UME and GME). This position provides tremendous opportunities for collaboration with co-leaders across disciplines and other curriculum years, innovation and professional advancement.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D. degree (or equivalent) and demonstrated excellence in didactic and dissection-based teaching in the full regional spectrum of medical gross anatomy. Additionally, a proficiency in the teaching of embryology and radiographic anatomy is highly recommended. Candidates should indicate a strong interest in integrative, multidisciplinary medical education and will be expected to actively pursue new approaches to enhance the school’s integrated curriculum. These will include uses of simulation and other technology to support teaching, development of new curricular components and educational materials, and implementation of new methods for student assessment. Applicant will have available the full resources of our iCELS (interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation) which includes Anatomage virtual dissection table, 3D printers, Microsoft HoloLens and the comprehensive 3D image processing lab of the Radiology department using TeraRecon 3D processing software.

We are seeking a candidate with strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills who has demonstrated success as an educator. The applicant should show evidence of engagement and productivity in the scholarship of teaching by dissemination of their work through peer-reviewed publications or presentations, and by involvement in regional and national level organizations.
