The Department of Music at the University of Connecticut, Storrs campus, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Residence, Assistant Director of Athletic Bands (Coordinator of Marching Band Drumline). The start date for the position is August 23, 2017. 

The Department of Music at the University of Connecticut is a fully-accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music with 20 full-time faculty members, 27 part-time faculty members, 150 undergraduate students, and 50 graduate students. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in performance, composition, music history, and music theory, as well as preparation for the music education program through the Neag School of Education. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with the directing, planning, rehearsal, performances and daily operations of the University of Connecticut Marching Band and Pep Bands as assigned by Director of Bands. Oversee marching percussion (drumline), produce musical arrangements and/or assist in show design and charting as appropriate. Cooperate effectively and positively with Division of Athletics personnel to coordinate and organize band participation at athletic events. Supervise graduate assistants and student personnel.  Administer and supervise the Marching Band instrument inventory.  Conduct performance ensembles and teach undergraduate courses as appropriate. Serve on University, School of Fine Arts, and Department of Music committees where appropriate.  Other duties as assigned by the Department Head.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS   

  1. Master’s Degree in Music or Music Education.
  2. Demonstrated success in marching and/or athletic bands at the high school or collegiate level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Skill in marching percussion.
  2. Experience in musical arranging, and/or show design and charting.
  3. Skill in organization of band program, trip and activity organization and planning.
  4. Experience with collegiate pep band.
  5. Experience with marching and movement training.
  6. Experience with conducting/directing of musical ensembles.
  7. Doctor of Musical Arts, or terminal degree, or progress towards an appropriate terminal degree.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure track renewable appointment at the Storrs campus with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2017. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
