The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) invites applications for a tenure track, multi-year position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Social Work beginning September 16, 2018. This is a full-time position with a nine-month service period.

The Social Work and Criminal Justice Program at UW Tacoma offers three degrees. The Master of Social Work (MSW) program includes a part-time evening program with approximately 130 students and an Advanced Standing evening program with 30 students. The Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare (BASW) program enrolls approximately 110 students. The Social Work and Criminal Justice Program also offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice with both on-campus and online delivery formats and an average annual enrollment of 150 students. This major places a heavy emphasis on social justice and offers a multidisciplinary understanding of crime and justice.

The Social Work and Criminal Justice program affirms the tradition of promoting social and economic justice. This position’s teaching responsibilities are primarily in the Social Work degree program. Candidates must have a doctoral degree or foreign equivalent in social work or a closely related field by the time of appointment. An MSW from a CSWE-accredited institution or foreign equivalent is required, and at least 2 years of post-MSW practice experience is strongly preferred. We seek applicants with a commitment to social justice, and expertise in or scholarship related to communities that are disproportionately impacted by social and economic injustice. Applications from those with a demonstrated ability to teach in the areas of policy, macro practice, chemical dependency, and diversity, equity, and inclusion are particularly encouraged. Candidates must have a demonstrated research agenda and the ability to engage in meaningful and productive research.
