San Francisco State University, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in inorganic chemistry beginning August 2018. The department is deeply committed to both high-quality teaching and research at the undergraduate and master’s level and the successful candidate will share this dual focus.

Qualifications: Candidates should have Ph. D. in inorganic chemistry or closely related field. Post-doctoral or equivalent research experience is required and applicants must demonstrate an active record of scholarship. Candidates with a background in inorganic chemistry and chemical education are welcome to apply.

Candidates should have a strong background in experimental inorganic chemistry. The research area of specialization is open, but would ideally complement the interests of existing faculty.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach courses in the areas of inorganic chemistry lecture and laboratory, general chemistry, and in their area of specialization at the undergraduate and graduate levels as appropriate. Candidates are preferred who have a strong commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching and who are able to work cooperatively with colleagues on curriculum and programs. Preferred candidates should have experience teaching, or mentoring minorities, or other underrepresented groups.

Candidates must have an active record of scholarship related to their specialty and demonstrate the potential to establish an externally-funded research program in experimental inorganic chemistry.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate how they have or will incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in their courses and scholarship.

Responsibilities: The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in inorganic chemistry, including lecture and upper division laboratory courses, general chemistry, and in the area of the candidate’s specialty. Additional responsibilities include mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing research program in one’s area of specialty in which undergraduate and graduate (master’s) students substantively participate, and ongoing committee and service assignments. Rank and Salary: Assistant or associate professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The California State University system provides competitive health, retirement, and other benefits.
