Position Description:

*** this position has been closed, and no new applications will be accepted. ***

Senior and junior tenure-track faculty positions are available at the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute (Jacobs Institute), a cornerstone of the Cornell Tech graduate-level campus in New York City. Faculty hired in these positions will be academically appointed via the Technion at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, and permanently located at Cornell Tech in New York City. Formal employment and benefits are delivered through Cornell University, and match those of Cornell faculty.

The Jacobs Institute shares with Cornell Tech the mission of developing leaders and technologies for the digital age, with a goal of revolutionizing academia’s approach to entrepreneurship and academic interaction with industry. Our research, therefore, focuses on the broad applied area of computing and information sciences. The Institute seeks candidates with demonstrated transdisciplinary interests and a track record of translational science, especially in service of the common good. Jacobs faculty members push the envelope of academia, combining world-class research and teaching with innovative, out-of-the-box thinking.

We are interested in exceptional applicants from engineering, computing, and information-driven fields who will enhance the Jacobs Institute’s current research interests and complement its current faculty expertise. Applications are particularly encouraged in cyber-physical systems (including urban robotics), and digital health technology. Candidates must hold a Ph.D., have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding research at the level of tenure-track or tenured faculty at the Technion, and also have a strong commitment to engagement outside of academia in ways that foster significant commercial or societal impact, as aligned with the mission of the Cornell Tech campus. Successful candidates are expected to pursue an active research program, to teach Master’s and Ph.D.-level graduate courses, and to supervise graduate students.

To ensure full consideration, applications should be received by December 1, 2017, but will be accepted until all positions are filled.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, brief statements of research and teaching interests, identify one or two top publications to which they have made significant contributions and request that at least three references on their behalf be submitted through the site. A distinguishing characteristic of research at the Jacobs Institute, in addition to world-class academic work, is that it engages deeply with external communities, organizations, K-12 education, and industry to address real-world problems and contexts that amplify the direct commercial and societal impact of our research. Accordingly, within a clearly identified subsection of the research statement, the candidate should address prior accomplishments and future plans related to this kind of direct commercial and/or societal impact of their research.
