The Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position beginning in the Summer or Fall of 2019. The mission of the Rudd Center is to promote solutions to childhood obesity, poor diet, and weight bias through research and policy. This is a full time, annually renewable position with a maximum duration of 2 years.

This Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to research on food insecurity, community-based nutrition interventions, and health equity under Drs. Marlene Schwartz and Kristen Cooksey-Stowers. Responsibilities include quantitative and qualitative data collection, community engagement throughout the research process, data analyses, literature reviews, grant writing, and writing scientific papers.

  1. Ph.D. in Nutrition, Environmental Sciences, Public Health, Public Policy, Human Development & Family Studies, or related field completed within the past 2 years
  2. Research experience in the area of food policy and obesity
  3. Strong analytical and statistical skills (e.g., multivariate analyses)
  4. Strong qualitative research skills
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills
  6. Strong community engagement skills


  1. Candidates whose research interests intersect with those of supervising faculty
  2. Experience with SPSS, SAS, and STATA statistical software programs
  3. Experience with Nvivo or Dedoose qualitative analysis software
  4. Experience with collection and analysis of dietary data
  5. Ability to work independently
  6. Excellent organizational skills
  7. Excellent interpersonal skills
  8. Experience collecting data in community/child care settings
  9. Proficient in Spanish


This is a full-time, annually renewable position based in Storrs, CT.
