The University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Nursing is seeking applications to fill one full-time, 11-month, Clinical Instructor/Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical (Non-Tenure-Track) Professor position.  This person will act as the Director of Simulation-Based Education with the main campus (Storrs) as home base.  Appointment at the assistant or associate professor level, non-tenure-track basis will depend on the qualifications and preferences of the applicant.

UConn’s School of Nursing is among the top 15% of nursing schools nationwide.  We have 50 full time faculty members, 600 undergraduate, and over 250 graduate students enrolled in our MS, DNP and Ph.D. programs, and is actively engaged in research and clinical scholarship in symptom science and self-management, correctional health, high risk infancy, and gerontology.

The School of Nursing’s base is located on UConn’s main campus in Storrs, a mixed suburban/rural setting in the rolling hills of eastern Connecticut.  Storrs is less than 40 minutes from the capital city of Hartford with additional performing arts, museums, and fine restaurants.  It lies approximately 1 hour by car from historic Boston, the seashores of Connecticut, Rhode Island and Cape Cod, and the Green Mountains of Vermont with excellent skiing.  Direct bus service from the campus to New York City (approximately 2 hours away) is available on a daily basis.  The climate is characterized by four full seasons and is especially beautiful in the fall.  Connecticut has excellent public schools and social services and is the home to multiple institutions of higher learning with national and international reputations.

Under the direction of the Dean, the faculty member will be responsible for directing simulated clinical education in the Clinical Learning Simulation Centers (CLSC) on the Storrs, Stamford, Waterbury and Avery Point UConn campuses. The Director works with the pre-licensure and graduate directors and clinical coordinators to arrange simulated clinical experiences for all levels of nursing students; supervises designated faculty members, graduate assistants, and a technician assistant to develop and implement simulation scenarios; chairs the Clinical Simulation Committee; manages budgetary expenditures related to CLSC operations; engages in research or scholarship related to clinical education via simulation; teaches undergraduate courses; advises students and evaluates clinical and written work; and promotes involvement of the School of Nursing in simulation activities outside of the University. The incumbent will be the Director and responsible for teaching, scholarship, and service.

The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction and will also be expected to assist the University in its efforts to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups, to demonstrate through teaching, research/scholarship, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience, to integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools, and to provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.


  • Master's in nursing or related field (equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable);
  • A proven record of excellence in teaching;
  • Substantial experience in simulation education for nursing students;
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator credentials, NLN Simulation Innovation Resource Center course completion, or post-doctoral training in simulation (in place by start date);
  • Leadership experience in simulation;
  • Three years of practice experience in a relevant clinical area;
  • Current Connecticut state license as RN (valid as of the date of hire);
  • Deep commitment to promoting diversity through academic and research/scholarship programs;
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.


  • Doctorate in nursing or related field (equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable);
  • Experience integrating technology into classroom and online instruction;
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute through research/scholarship, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.


Rank will be determined at time of hire and will be commensurate with experience in teaching, simulation education and leadership experience.
