Position summary: The Chang Lab (http://www.pamchanglab.com) conducts research at the interface of microbiology, immunology, and chemical biology. Located in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Cornell University in beautiful Ithaca, NY, our research is focused on understanding chemical communication between the gut microbiome and the host immune system. Using both chemical and biological approaches, we develop novel chemical tools to understand 1) the metabolism of the gut microbiome and 2) important pathways within the host immune system by controlling the activities of specific immune cell types. We also seek to understand 3) the roles of microbially-produced metabolites on the host immune system.

We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral associate with an outstanding record of independent research in microbiology, immunology, or a related field. Projects may include development of novel chemical probes, application of these probes to biological systems, and biological study of host-microbe interactions. Projects may also include biological study of inflammatory diseases that are regulated by microbial metabolites.

A cover letter describing your research interests, career goals, research skills and experience, CV (including a list of publications), and the names of three professional references should be emailed to Dr. Pamela Chang (pamela.chang@cornell.edu). Applications will be reviewed as received, and the position will remain open until filled. As per Cornell’s standard policy, this is a one-year appointment, subject to renewal based on performance and available funding.

Required qualifications: Individual must either have a Ph.D. or be completing a Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field with a strong knowledge base and extensive experience in these areas.

Responsibilities: Pursue hypothesis-driven research of host-microbe interactions. Techniques may include but are not limited to: anaerobic bacterial culture, BSL2 level pathogen infection models, mammalian tissue culture, mouse disease models, molecular and cell biological techniques (e.g., molecular and cell biology, biochemical and cell-based assays).
