The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, invites applications for a Professor of the Practice position at any rank (i.e., Assistant, Associate, or Full). We especially encourage applicants with interest and experience in software engineering or systems software.
The ideal candidate will have commitment, passion, and excellence in teaching. Candidates should be eager to educate a broad and diverse group of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and passionate about working to increase the participation and success of students from groups underrepresented in computer engineering and science. An ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about teaching courses in software engineering (e.g., object oriented design, software testing, etc.) or system software (e.g., operating systems, networking, databases, etc.).
Professors of the Practice are regular rank faculty whose primary focus is the school’s educational mission. Reappointment and promotion are based on teaching excellence as well as complementary scholarship through technical or educational research, external research funding, peer-reviewed conference and journal publications, and/or involvement in engineering education at the national or international level. Such faculty typically teach two courses per semester with TA support.
Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or an appropriate related discipline.
