DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

CORNELL UNIVERSITY
POSITION: Postdoctoral Associate
DURATION: One-year appointment (renewable full-time; 100% FTE)
START DATE:  Negotiable
LOCATION: Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering Riley Robb Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853-5701
 
SUMMARY: Work in the broad field of immunotherapies, particularly at the interface between biomaterials and immunology. Specific examples include cell replacement therapies for type 1 diabetes, local immunomodulation, B/T cell delivery, immuno-cellular-therapies for cancer and autoimmune disease.
This is a full-time, 100% FTE appointment dependent on funding availability, performance and continued alignment of the candidate with the research group's goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research in the broad field of immunotherapies (80%)
•Conduct independent or collaborative research on immunotherapies, particularly at the interfacebetween biomaterials and immunology.
Laboratory maintenance (5%)
•Maintain key analytical instrumentation necessary for analysis.
•Maintain standard operating protocols (SOPs).
•Maintain supplies of consumables necessary for daily operation of key instrumentation andprocesses. Place orders as needed.
Publications and presentations (15%)
•Prepare oral and written progress reports and contribute to the writing of manuscripts.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in immunology, bioengineering or a closely related field is required along with extensive experience in immunology. Background in biomaterials, tissue engineering, drug delivery or stem cell biology is preferred. Experience with the management of projects and groups, and strong skills in research and communications are desirable.

SALARY: Commensurate with experience

SUPERVISION: Supervised by Dr. Minglin Ma, Associate Professor, Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The postdoctoral associate may assist in advising beginning graduate students, undergraduate students and visiting scientists.
