DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND LIFE SCIENCES CORNELL UNIVERSITY

POSITION: Postdoctoral Associate DURATION: One-year appointment and Renewable, annual renewal for up to 3 years START DATE: ASAP LOCATION: Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering Riley Robb Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853-5701

Position Description: This Postdoctoral Associate position is in the general field of biomaterials and cellular bioengi-neering under the supervision of Dr. Minglin Ma at Cornell University. The Ma research group consists of an interdisciplinary team of chemists, material scientists and bioengineers, and is fo-cusing on developing advanced biomaterials for medical and agricultural applications. Examples of applications include type 1 diabetes, hemophilia treatment and pesticide detoxification for polli-nators.

Duties and Responsibilities: •Help develop new biomaterials and devices for therapeutic applications especially the treat-ment of diabetes and hemophilia. (70%) •Publish research articles in relevant peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific meetings. (10%) •Assist the PI to develop proposals to secure external funding for research projects. (10%) •Provide guidance to graduate and undergraduate students about specific laboratory tech-niques and data analysis, as needed. (10%)

Requirements: •Ph.D degree in bioengineering, chemical engineering and related fields •Expertise in biomaterials and cellular bioengineering •Reasonable knowledge in biology-material interactions (e.g. foreign body response, vas-cularization of biomaterials)
