As part of plans to build on existing strengths of and expand our Center for Soft Matter and Biological Physics (https://csmb.phys.vt.edu/), the Department of Physics at Virginia Tech (http://www.phys.vt.edu) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Experimental Soft Matter and/or Biological Physics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, physics of synthetic biological systems, physical biomimetics, biomolecular physics, biomechanics, active matter, colloidal physics, and polymer physics. The Center for Soft Matter and Biological Physics provides broad opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations within Virginia Tech’s College of Science (www.science.vt.edu/) and College of Engineering (www.eng.vt.edu/), as well as its Macromolecules Innovations (www.mii.vt.edu/), Fralin Life Sciences (https://fralinlifesci.vt.edu/), and Critical Technology and Applied Science (www.ictas.vt.edu/) Institutes.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in physics or a closely related field by date of hire and must have postdoctoral experience at the time of the appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous and well-funded research program; teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; continue development of scholarly activities and professional capabilities; occasionally travel, for example, to attend professional conferences and present research seminars; and actively participate in department, college, and university governance.
