The Brandeis University Department of Fine Arts seeks an art historian specializing in Latin American, Latinx, or Afro-Latin art to design and teach surveys introducing students to these fields as well specialized lectures and seminars in the area of the candidate’s specialty. This tenure-track assistant professor position is being offered in response to growing student interest. The position supports Fine Arts students in the art, art history, and architecture programs as well as those in the Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies programs, and African and African American Studies Department if suitable. The faculty position will play a dynamic role in cross-disciplinary programming within the School of Arts and Sciences. Collaborations with organizations in the Waltham and Boston communities are also encouraged. Teaching load is 2/2 with advising responsibilities.

Candidates should hold a PhD in Art History by June 1 2023; applicants with a PhD in a related field and a record of professional accomplishments in the arts will also be considered. As a research one institution committed to liberal arts teaching, Brandeis looks for candidates with strong research agendas and familiarity with best-teaching practices, including pedagogical innovation, inclusive strategies, and use of new technologies. Success in the position will require continued scholarly activities through conference presentations, publications, and professional accomplishments with in the field. Success will also rest on participation in the life of the University including but not limited to departmental and university service, curricular and programming development, and student advising and mentoring.
