Occupational Summary This position assists with the primary processing and management of archaeological data from an active excavation, including data input, classification, and preliminary analysis, using the OCHRE Platform for Integrative Research. The successful candidate will additionally serve as a liason between excavation staff and a diverse international group of subfield specialists working toward secondary analysis and publication of excavation results. A Ph.D. in Archaeology or a related field, strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills, and familiarity with database management are essential; prior experience with OCHRE strongly preferred. Work Performed - Work closely with project director to organize and streamline management of raw data from recent excavations. This includes making sure the database is up-to-date and that the proper relationships between data categories are being maintained, with reference to paper reports, photographs, and geospatial data. - Work independently to interpret new results in order to integrate them within pre-established project hierarchies within project database (typological, functional, chronological). This may include research into previous excavations and judicious use of legacy data. - Cogently summarize independent work in biweekly reports to project director and integrate feedback as appropriate - Facilitate access to raw data and contextual information by interested specialists as appropriate - Produce charts, maps, and tables of various types of data/results for use by project director and specialists in their analysis Required Qualifications at this Level Education/Training Ph.D. in Mediterranean Archaeology or related field. Experience At least three years of excavation experience on an archaeological project, preferably in the Mediterranean or Middle East. Skills ● Demonstrated facility with database management. Prior experience with OCHRE Platform for Integrative Research strongly preferred. ● Demonstrated ability to summarize research and conduct investigations or literature reviews ● Excellent written and verbal communication skills ● Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills ● Ability to set priorities among multiple tasks ● Ability to work independently and accurately with a high attention to detail ● Reading knowledge of German and/or Turkish a plus.
