The Department of Classical Studies at Duke University seeks to appoint a one-year instructor with the possibility of renewal with specialization in Greek and Latin language and literature for 2023-24. We seek candidates with demonstrated excellence in language pedagogy, especially Greek, but with the ability to teach Latin at all levels as well. The candidate will regularly teach Greek 750S, “Foundations of Ancient Greek: History Morphology, Semantics, Syntax, Stylists,” a course that prepares graduate students for success in Greek in our graduate program. The candidate may also teach Greek 580, “Survey of Greek Literature,” offer directed readings or coursework in Greek or Latin for Classics students in the M.A. in Humanities Program, and teach other courses in Greek, Latin, or English translation according to the needs of the department.

This position covers replacement teaching and the course load and commensurate compensation will vary from year-to-year. The successful candidate can expect to teach anywhere from 2-5 courses per year.
