The School of Business Operations and Information Management Department at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor In-Residence, with primary responsibilities including teaching and service,  interests in outreach, and research at the University’s Storrs campus in the areas of technical Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Data Analytics, Operations Management (OM) and Operations Research to begin in Fall 2020.

The Department of Operations and Information Management is among the top research departments in its field.  The 20 research faculty in the department are actively engaged in cutting-edge research in information systems, data analytics, optimization and operations management. The six in-residence faculty are involved with teaching, service, outreach and program management.

The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, to the development of innovative courses, and to the mentoring of students in their professional development.  In addition, individuals will be expected to contribute to scholarship and outreach targeted at the professional community so as to maintain faculty qualifications under AACSB guidelines.  Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

  • Candidates must have demonstrated excellence or strong potential in teaching relevant courses.
  • Candidates for Instructor in Residence must possess a Masters or equivalent in the appropriate fields of interest to the department.  Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
  • Candidates for Assistant Professor In-Residence must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in the appropriate fields of interest to the department.  Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. 
  • A deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic and research programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.


  • Some industry experience using Information Systems, Technology and Business Analytics.
  • Experience in IT Security, networking and/or databases (SQL).
  • Experience with UX/UI Design, web development and/or programming languages – C#, Python, HTML/CSS, Javascript.
  • Experience with data analytics including SAS, Hadoop, Tableau, R, Splunk or any other relevant tools.


This is a full-time, nine-month, end-date non-tenure track position with the possibility of annual reappointment, contingent upon positive annual reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment.  The anticipated start date is August 23, 2020.  The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the University’s Storrs campus with the possibility of assignment at other regional campuses.  Salary and position level will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
