As an Associate in Research, the key objectives are understanding how the current model for cervical cancer prevention contributes to high incidence of morbidity and mortality of the disease, particularly in low and middle-income countries. You will learn about the process of human-centered design, the technologies we have developed (the Pocket Colposcope) to overcome barriers to screening/care, and how to implement those strategies in local and international clinical settings. Fellows will become adept at using the Pocket Colposcope and the appropriate software to provide technical support to international clinic partners and engage in clinical research through our ongoing study in Duke’s Gynecological Clinic as well as other international sites. Through their experience with our center, students will gain a rich understanding of interdisciplinary collaboration in innovation, education, and empowerment. Please expect that up to 25% of your job will be administrative as you will be expected to assist lab staff in managing the center’s research, clinical implementation, and educational activities. Specifically, in your administrative role, you will be asked to assist with scheduling for the Center’s Director, Nimmi Ramanujam, and Executive Director, Marlee Krieger, and organizing lab events and meetings. You will also be asked to assist with the Center newsletter which includes writing articles, providing photographic services, performing layout duties and interacting closely with directors to ensure adequate coverage of human interest stories, operational and organization plans, employee benefits and other areas of employee interests.

All members of the Center are expected to create weekly updates in the form of powerpoint presentations, create meeting agendas and record meeting minutes. You will also be expected to identify grant opportunities and directly apply for grants with Dr. Ramanujam. You will be expected to work full-time, 40-hours per week and expected to follow the handbook and all policies of the Center for Global Women’s health technologies. Marlee Krieger will serve as your direct supervisors. Please be sure to schedule 30-, 60- and 90-day evaluations with her. You will be required to attend the Duke orientation as well as the Center specific orientation.
