SCRIPPS COLLEGE CLAREMONT, CALIFORNIA 91711 Tenure-Track Position in Spanish, Latin American and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures FALL 2018

Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary core program, invites applications for a tenure-track position in the department of Spanish, Latin American and Caribbean Literatures and Cultures for fall 2018, at the rank of Assistant Professor.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in Indigenous Cultures and Languages, with an emphasis in cultural translations highly desirable. We will consider candidates with geographic areas of specialization either in: 1) Central American and/or Mexican transnational literatures and cultures. 2) Venezuelan, and/or Colombian, and/or Chilean and/or Paraguayan transnational literatures and cultures.

We are particularly interested in candidates specializing in African and indigenous diaspora discourses and who take a transnational or comparative approach in their work. We are seeking candidates with research areas including race and sexuality studies, postcolonial eco-criticism, urban studies, translation theory, new media, or visual and performance studies to forge a strong dialogue between, and within, our areas of specialization pertaining to Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Africa.

Teaching load 4 courses per academic year. Participation in the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities program is expected. Participatory involvement with different Intercollegiate Programs of the Claremont Colleges also highly encouraged. Fluency in Spanish and English required. Ph.D. preferred; ABD will be considered. The College is seeking a colleague who has demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level, language and upper-division and core, foundations-level courses within the major. Strong ongoing scholarly and professional activities required. Preference will be given to applicants with a commitment to the College’s goal of improving higher education for underrepresented students.
