The Department of Speech and Hearing Science in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor with expertise in the area of bilingual speech-language pathology. Although the position would be 100% within the Department of Speech and Hearing Science, it has been developed in collaboration with Ohio State’s Department of Spanish and Portuguese with the goal of creating a robust bilingual speech-language pathology program. The successful candidate will strengthen the existing collaboration with Spanish and Portuguese and be integral in the development and implementation of the bilingual SLP program. Experience and/or interest in curriculum development and pedagogical best practices in bilingual speech-language pathology and clinical instruction would be highly valued.

The Department of Speech and Hearing Science is positioned within the College of Arts and Sciences and the Division of the Social and Behavioral Sciences. It consists of 22 full-time faculty across the tenure, clinical, and research tracks. The Department has four main academic programs: the BA in Speech and Hearing Science, MA in Speech-Language Pathology, AuD in Audiology, and the PhD. In addition to maintaining an active research program, candidates are expected to contribute to the Department’s teaching and service missions by teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Successful applicants will have opportunities to teach courses in basic speech-language sciences, as well as courses in more clinically applied areas associated with their area of expertise. In addition, they will have the opportunity to take a central role in building the bilingual SLP curriculum. The Ohio State University has a strong institutional commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all areas. We favor candidates who can promote interdisciplinary perspectives, intercultural understanding, sensitivity and respect among our departmental community and the patients and families whom we serve.

Through the Race, Inclusion and Social Equity (RAISE) initiative, Ohio State is enhancing our world-class research program on race, inclusion, and social equity. Over the next decade, the university will add at least 50 tenure-track faculty members to existing scholars whose research can help to narrow social disparities in educational attainment, health outcomes, rates of incarceration, political representation, environmental impacts, and economic well-being. Adding scholars in focused areas will enhance the University’s outstanding faculty and inform solutions to intractable issues. RAISE is part of Ohio State’s larger initiative to expand the size and impact of Ohio State’s faculty over the coming decade, while also enhancing academic and personal resources to support Ohio State scholars, educators, and practitioners through all phases of their careers.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in Speech and Hearing Science, Communicative Disorders, or a related field and must possess clinical certification and/or eligibility for licensure in Ohio as a speech-language pathologist. Language proficiency in Spanish is also expected. The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of publications in peer-reviewed journals or an emerging publication record, and evidence of potential for extramural funding (e.g., National Institutes of Health, NSF). We seek candidates who demonstrate multicultural competence, or the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways. Willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and to mentor students from a wide range of cultures and academic backgrounds is essential. Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
