The School of Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology is looking for a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to join the theoretical soft matter physics group led by Assistant Professor Zeb Rocklin. Our research focuses on how the structure of engineered and natural soft materials informs their motion and mechanical response. A particular focus is on topological and geometric effects. We seek a highly-motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the theory of soft or hard condensed matter, materials, or a closely-related area. Proficiency with computational techniques, including high-performance computing, is desired. Experience with topological states of matter, biophysics, and physically realizing mechanical systems (e.g., 3D printing) are additional qualifications for the position, though by no means necessary. The appointee will perform theoretical physics research, supplemented by computational work and a degree of lab work and/or experimental collaborations. The appointee will have the opportunity to supervise graduate and/or undergraduate students, to travel to present research and to acquire additional training. We benefit from a very stimulating environment at Georgia Tech with world-class research efforts in the sciences and engineering. The School of Physics has a rapidly-expanding soft matter community and tremendous expertise in related areas such as hard condensed matter, biophysics and nonlinear physics. University-wide, Georgia Tech has a strong and diverse soft matter community. Georgia Tech consistently ranks among the top public universities in the United States and is located in the heart of Atlanta, one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the US. Atlanta offers endless opportunities for musical, culinary and cultural exploration, as well as close proximity to outstanding areas such as the Great Smoky Mountains National Park or the coastal cities of Savannah and Charleston. The postdoctoral fellowship offers a competitive salary and benefits and will be available from the Fall of 2019 (start date flexible) for one year renewable for up to a total of three years. Applicants should submit a CV with a list of publications, the name of three references willing to provide letters of recommendation, and a brief cover letter with statement of research interests (maximum two pages), via Academic Jobs Online. All materials should be received by December 21st to be guaranteed full consideration. Any questions may be directed to zebrocklin@gatech.edu with subject “PDocSearch”. Georgia Tech is an Equal Employment Opportunity Institution and a unit of the University System of Georgia.
