Position opening: Beamline manager/scientist for the spatially-, chemically-, angle- and spin- resolved photoemission spectroscopy (spin ARPES endstation)

NTHU in Hsinchu, Taiwan is one of the world’s leading research university neighboring to the National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center, which has a new 3.0 GeV Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) as one of the highest brightness synchrotron radiation applications worldwide.

The beamline endstation TPS39A is dedicated for spatially-, chemically-, angle- and spin- resolved photoemission spectroscopy and microscopy of crystalline solids, thin films, and 2D materials using soft X-ray. lt offers high flux photons with energy from 20 to 650 eV with a beam size of about 3 um at 100 eV.

The successful applicant will be in charge of operating the state-of-the-art micrometer-focused beamline and a new and operating TPS39A ARPES endstation equipped with MBE, LEED, STM, Scienta DA30 analyzer for 3D band mapping and a He-cooled low temperature manipulator. The analyzer is also equipped with a 2D VLEED spin detector for spin mapping. This endstation is currently in working condition with VUV5K lamp. An undulator beamline with an elliptical undulator and micro-focusing capabilities is under construction and should be ready in later half of 2020 for the endstation. You will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, optimization and automatization of the endstation hardware. You will manage and provide the support of external and internal user groups at TPS39A. You will manage research programs on enabling photoemission technology. You will be leading a group of MS and PHD students.

Requirements PhD in physics, materials science or a related field substantial experience in using UHV MBE and angle resolved photoemission and deep understanding of data treatment software, and communication skills in English.

Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public universities in Taiwan. Nearby 2 bedroom family apartment are plenty for about USD 500 per month. • Taxes and living expenses relatively low in Taiwan (<1/2 of that in US)
