Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Qatar invites applications for a CMU teaching-track faculty position at the assistant level in the field of Computer Science to begin in Fall 2023. Candidates interested in visiting appointments will also be considered. The position involves a reasonable teaching load, which allows conducting research and engaging in various academic activities, including outreach, advising, and curriculum development, among others. Funds are available to support research agendas and candidates are encouraged to contribute with high-quality research projects.

About CMU in Qatar

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar operates in concert with several other American and European branch campuses under the umbrella of the Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The branch campus closely follows the admissions requirements and English language curriculum of the home campus, which awards all degrees. The several thousand students in Education City students are a broad mix of nationalities, but primarily from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. CMUQ’s faculty is a mix of professionals hired specifically to the campus and seconded faculty from the main campus. CMUQ’s primary focus is undergraduate education in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Information Systems.

Qualifications


Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field, and outstanding academic credentials. The position expects a strong interest and commitment to teaching, mentoring, and supporting students at the undergraduate level. It primarily involves teaching classes in the areas of programming languages, theory, and natural language processing. Exceptional candidates with other areas of expertise are welcome to apply. Besides being excellent educators, candidates are expected to contribute to the Computer Science department through activities such as research, outreach, advising, and/or curriculum development.
