The Department of Communication at the University of Connecticut welcomes applications for a tenured faculty position in Science Communication at the appointment of Associate Professor or Professor commensurate with the appointee’s record.

The position will be based on our main campus in Storrs, CT, and will begin on August 23, 2020. Consistent with the Department's quantitative approach to the discipline, we seek applicants whose research agenda takes a social scientific approach in any one of a number of science communication research areas, including but not limited to: environmental communication; risk communication; public perception of science; cross cultural effects/science knowledge gaps; science and politics; science disinformation and social media; climate change communication; health communication; communication and controversial technologies. Candidates are expected to continue or establish an internationally recognized program of research, and bring in external funding to support these initiatives.

The Department of Communication has 17 tenured and tenure track faculty members and 5 Assistant Professors-in-Residence, approximately 40 graduate students and 900 undergraduate majors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in Communication is required. Research and teaching qualifications must align with description above. Scholarly record should be appropriate for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor at a Research 1 institution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Established record of federal level research funding/and or funding from private organizations. History of mentoring and advising graduate students. Record of engaging with journalists and/or policy makers on matters of science communication. Strong ability or interest in exploring multi-disciplinary research opportunities across the University.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 9-month, tenured position at the level of Associate Professor or Professor. Applicants must meet University requirements for appointment at the rank of full Professor or Associate Professor, with tenure. Teaching load includes two courses per semester. Summer teaching opportunities are also available on an ad hoc basis. Salary and rank is based on upon qualifications and experience.
