The University of Zurich (UZH) has multiple postdoc positions available in experimental particle physics research on the CMS experiment at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider. The CMS groups at UZH are engaged in data analysis, software, and operations of the CMS detector. In particular we are interested in performing in-depth investigations of the Standard Model of the top quark and Higgs boson, heavy-ion collisions, and direct searches for physics beyond the SM, including studies on lepton flavour universality and physics with tau leptons. We have been involved in the construction of the original and phase-1 barrel pixel detector, and we have an important role in the pixel detector upgrade for the CMS phase-2.

The University of Zurich is 3 hours by train from CERN, allowing its scientists to play visible roles in both institutions. Besides CMS, UZH plays leading roles in LHCb, XENON/DARWIN, DAMIC, GERDA/LEGEND, FCC and other projects.

The successful candidates are expected to take a leading role in both fields, data analysis and detector upgrade studies. The positions are initially limited to three years with the possibility of extension. Applicants must hold a PhD degree obtained within the past 4 years and have solid experience in experimental particle physics.

Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, research statement, publication list, and arrange at least three letters of recommendation to be submitted by the reference writers at:

Materials should be received by July 1st, 2023. Complete applications will be considered immediately. Applications received after that date will be considered until the position is filled. Enquiries concerning the positions can be made to Prof. Florencia Canelli ( and Prof. Ben Kilminster (
