The ATLAS experimental group based at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste Italy, part of the INFN Udine/ICTP cluster, seeks to hire a postdoctoral researcher to begin in September 2021. The post will be offered for up to three years in total and we are seeking a candidate with a strong background in physics analysis of ATLAS data. Initially the post will be based in Trieste with ample opportunities to travel to CERN (COVID permitting) with a possibility (subject to the securement of funding) to spend up to a year at CERN.
The successful candidate will preferably be able to demonstrate:
strong physics analysis skills with a proven track record within the ATLAS experiment
An excellent overview of the LHC physics programme (past, present and future)
Experience in detector commissioning, operation, monitoring or other relevant hardware experience.
Experience with relevant Monte Carlo simulation tools
The Udine/ICTP group has extensive experience in top quark, Higgs and BSM physics analyses and is also contributing to the Inner Detector upgrades of the ATLAS detector.
The successful candidate will also become a member of the High Energy, Cosmology and Astrophysics group of the ICTP (https://www.ictp.it/research/hecap.aspx) which offers an active scientific environment within which to work with seminars, workshops, schools and international visitors covering a broad range of topics in the field. The candidate may also gain a limited amount of teaching experience working with students from ICTP’s Diploma Programme.
ICTP has a mission to foster physics and mathematics in developing countries and in line with its mission, candidates from developing countries or underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
To apply, please submit a CV, letter of intent at AJO (link). Candidates can also ask referees to upload their letters of recommendation there. |
