DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Associate Professor / Assistant Professor in Construction Safety / Public Health (Ref. 17072501)

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering enjoys a high reputation in conducting application-oriented research and has well established connections with industry partners and government agencies in Hong Kong. It offers academic programmes at various levels. In addition to PhD and MSc programmes, the Department offers 3 undergraduate programmes, namely BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering, BEng (Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development and BSc (Hons) in Environmental and Occupational Safety and Health. The Department currently has about 40 faculty members and 38 technical and administrative personnel, and is committed to international standards of excellence in teaching and research. The appointee will be required to (a) teach relevant undergraduate and postgraduate Construction Safety/Environmental Health subjects, such as Occupational Health and Hygiene, Human Health and Environment, Risk Management, Safety Technology, Safety Management and Audit, and other related subjects; (b) supervise student projects and theses; (c) initiate, lead and participate in research activities; and (d) undertake relevant administrative duties, including programme leadership, curriculum development, programme validation and accreditation, etc.

Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in Construction Safety/Public Health or Civil Engineering (major in Construction Engineering and Management); (b) have solid experience in teaching and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and research; (c) have a good record of research and scholarship; and (d) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills and have good interpersonal skills.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment for Assistant Professor will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. An appropriate term will be provided for appointment at Associate Professor level.
