INTRODUCTION

The Department of Statistics at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Residence. The position is suitable for candidates who wish to pursue an academic career with an emphasis on teaching and continued growth in that direction. Normal duties include a teaching load of 21 credit hours of instruction per year or the equivalent. The successful candidate may be required to undertake significant tutoring responsibility or other administrative duties with a commensurate reduction in the teaching load.

The successful candidate will have exceptional communication skills and a strong commitment to instruction, advising, and mentoring. The incumbent will teach introductory statistics courses. 

The Department is a highly active center of teaching, research, and service with local, national, and international presence.  It is a founding member of the New England Statistical Society, for which it houses the administration. 

Founded in 1881, UConn is a Land Grant and Sea Grant institution and member of the Space Grant Consortium. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, or equivalent foreign degree.
  • A superior record of teaching undergraduate courses, both methodological and applied.
  • Experience with educational technologies like blackboard and online homework systems.
  • Experience teaching and coordinating large lectures.
  • Evidence of potential for inclusive excellence in teaching, and a deep commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion through their pedagogical and/or academic programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience that includes non-traditional, first-generation, and/or historically underrepresented student populations.
  • Experience with grant applications for pedagogical activities.
  • Involvement in online or flipped courses.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position that has the possibility of leading to a multi-year contract.  The position has an anticipated start date of January 10, 2022.  The successful candidate’s initial academic appointment will be at the Stamford campus.  Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
