The Asian/Pacific Studies Institute (APSI) and the Global Asia Initiative (GAI) at Duke University seek applications for a postdoctoral associate researching environmental and climate studies in Asia from Fall 2023 for one year, renewable for another. Candidates should be researching an aspect of environmental and/or climate change in East or Southeast Asia. The time period of the research is the contemporary, albeit in a loose sense, since there are also long-term trends that affect the present. Applications will be entertained from both the social sciences and humanities fields.

The associate is required to develop and teach one course per year on topics related to the research. The course should cover the region broadly and may be offered at the graduate or undergraduate level depending on departmental needs.

Both APSI and GAI have a long interest in environmental humanities and the position is also designed to complement the recently announced Duke Climate Commitment: https://climate.duke.edu/. The selected candidate will pursue their own research in conjunction with any of the projects in APSI, GAI and the Duke Climate Commitment and will have the opportunity to organize a conference during their tenure. Minimum Education and Experience: The position requires a Ph.D. and demonstrated engagement with East and/or Southeast Asian Studies related to climate and/or environment.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience publishing and teaching courses related to climate and environment in Asia.
