The Quantum Materials and Devices Lab in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at University of Notre Dame is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work at the intersection of condensed matter physics and quantum information science.

The main research topic is on the development of novel quantum bits (qubits). It will involve designing and fabricating superconducting quantum devices, handling and studying noble-gas quantum liquids and solids, measuring electronic and optical properties of materials and devices at millikelvin temperatures.

The candidate should have a strong background in condensed matter physics, quantum physics, or related electrical, mechanical, and material engineering. Programming skills for controlling various electronic/optical hardware and performing quantum dynamics calculations are highly desirable.

This position is funded and renewable up to three years. Further extension of appointment will depend on funding availability and mutual agreement.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required:

  • Experience in electronic/optical device design and fabrication
  • Experience in quantum transport and/or quantum microwave measurement
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
Preferred:
  • Experience in cryogenic/vacuum system design and operation
  • Experience in superconductor/semiconductor/trapped-ion/defect based qubit research
  • Experience in electrodynamic simulation and/or density-functional calculation
  • Knowledge and good understanding of quantum information science
Interested candidates can apply on AJO. They can also send a curriculum vitae to Prof. Dafei Jin (dfjin@nd.edu).
