CENTER FOR CONSERVATION SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES AND THE ENVIRONMENT (DNRE) COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND LIFE SCIENCES CORNELL UNIVERSITY ITHACA, NY Effective immediately, all new

December 8. POSITION: Research Associate, full-time position, 40 hrs/wk, non-tenure track 75% research, 25% administrative This position
contributes to research and administration that advances the Center for
Conservation Social Sciences’ (CCSS) mission of expanding understanding of the
interactions of social and ecological systems (https://ccss.dnr.cals.cornell.edu/). We apply theory and empirical findings to real-world,
contemporary problems to inform research, teaching, policy, and practice. CCSS
research is used by a wide array of decision makers and environmental and
natural resource practitioners to develop, implement, and evaluate
environmental policies and management approaches. RESPONSIBILITIES: 75% Research. Research duties include: (1) developing and assisting with research proposals; (2) implementing and collaborating with CCSS faculty and graduate students on conservation social science research and (3) authoring and co-authoring journal articles, technical reports, and book chapters, and presenting at academic and professional conferences. Topical areas include wildlife and fisheries management, biodiversity conservation, risk communication, and social and environmental change (e.g., energy transitions, climate change, invasive species). Particular areas of focus may vary somewhat according to the expertise of the chosen candidate. This position requires developing familiarity with the research literature in relevant fields and related to specific challenges in conservation practice and helping the CCSS identify future research directions that advance its mission. 25% Administration. Administrative duties include overseeing the CCSS lab, which involves: (1) hiring, training and supervising research aides and student workers who implement standardized surveys and other research methods; (2) coordinating the implementation of research projects within the CCSS lab that are supervised by CCSS PIs; (3) overseeing expenditures on project budgets; and (4) offering guidance to graduate students and DNRE staff on conservation social science research methods. Initial appointment is one-year, renewable contingent on performance and funding availability. QUALIFICATIONS: ·
PhD
in a field related to conservation social sciences (required by the time the
appointment begins)
