Cornell University
Postdoctoral Associate : Youth Self-Driven Learning, Sense of purpose, and Well-being

The Department of Psychology in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for up to a 2-year period beginning Spring 2023. The successful candidate will work on a currently funded study investigating the value of youth-driven learning on positive youth development. Despite a substantial and growing research literature on curiosity, resilience, and purpose in life, there remain a small number of viable interventions to enhance these strengths. Our lab is collaborating with GripTape – a youth self-driven learning program, to evaluate the effectiveness of the this intervention program, and the underlying mechanisms that account for its positive outcomes. Through a series of projects, we intend to clarify precisely why GripTape works, for whom, and what psychological and social factors optimize its impact. For this project, we will conduct sound interdisciplinary research to ensure that our science informs organizations, public policy, education, and is communicated to the general public.

The successful applicant will collaborate an larger team of researchers to work to design studies, oversee data collection, management, and analysis, disseminate findings in scientific journals and at conferences. Applicants should have the following qualifications:

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in psychology, human development, education or closely-related field.

Demonstrated statistical expertise and experience with computer programming and R is preferred. Familiarity and experience with multilevel modeling is also preferred. Applicants should be able to lead data analyses and train other members of the lab.

A record of peer-reviewed journal articles that evidence rigorous thought, clear writing, and careful data analysis and interpretation. Applicants should be able to lead first-author papers with strong thinking, theorizing, and writing.

Commitment to open scientific values that support rigorous, reproducible research.

With this opportunity, you will receive the mentorship and opportunities to propel yourself into a top academic position. We ask for a minimum commitment of 1 full year, though support is available for 2-years.
