Summer Institute for Israel Studies June 11 - 23, 2019 at Brandeis and June 24 - July 3, 2019 in Israel 

The Summer Institute for Israel Studies is a competitive fellowship program open to faculty members in the humanities and social sciences. The flagship program of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University, the Summer Institute provides faculty with the foundation to teach about Israel in any discipline. Recent participants teach in disciplines such as history, international relations, film, Jewish studies, religion, law, anthropology, linguistics, and security studies, among others.   

Stipend of up to $2,500. Group travel, accommodations and most meals provided. 

Summer Institute for Israel Studies Fellows will:
  • Engage with world-class faculty from Israel and the U.S. in a two-week multidisciplinary Brandeis seminar  
  • Meet with leading personalities in public life, the academy and the arts on a 10-day Israel study tour 
  • Explore the complexity of Israeli society, politics and culture.
  • Create a syllabus and leave equipped to teach an Israel Studies course in your discipline 
  • Join a network of 314 alumni — teaching at over 200 institutions worldwide — supported by a wealth of pedagogical resources and ongoing professional development. 
Apply through January 31, 2019 by completing this online form. 

 Nota bene: 
  • Applicants must be actively teaching at a college or university that has approved their plans to introduce a course about Israel. 
  • Faculty teaching outside of Israel are eligible to apply. 
  • One of your two reference letters must be from a provost, chair, or other senior administrator confirming your institution's interest in offering an Israel Studies course.
  • Your reference writers must upload their letters directly through the application system. When you enter each reference writer's information on your Standard Coversheet, check the box that says "email notify writer on submit." This will instruct the system to email your referees the information they need in order to upload their letters. 
  • On your coversheet, please enter a complete mailing address so we can contact you with. Addresses must conform to United States Postal Service (USPS) regulations. Do not use names of campus buildings or lecture halls; instead, use the street name and number; suite or apartment number if applicable; or PO box number.
