Postdoctoral Associate in Atmospheric Science Dept. of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Cornell University Ithaca, NY CALS

Position Descriptions and Responsibilities: Applications are sought for a Postdoctoral
Associate to join a vibrant research team focused on performing and analyzing
high resolution simulations with the Weather Research and Forecasting model
(WRF). The successful candidate will participate in research applying WRF to
address research questions in the realms of climate dynamics, land use land
cover change and wind energy applications. A particular focus will be on innovative
methods to perform diagnostic evaluation of model performance and skill. Qualifications: The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in
atmospheric science, engineering or related subject. Experience with
high-performance computing environments and programming in Fortran and/or
Matlab is required. Experience with the Weather Research and Forecasting model
(WRF) and analysis of WRF output is also required. Familiarity with statistics and
model fidelity assessment is highly desirable. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Specific responsibilities (and approximate effort allocation) include: (70%) Conduct and evaluate numerical
downscaling simulations using WRF. (20%) Develop publication-quality research
manuscripts. (10%) Data archiving using best-practice data
provenance procedures.
