The Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts at The Ohio State University invites applications from costume designers and educators in the field of live performance for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 15, 2023.

This new colleague will join a department that includes designers, directors, filmmakers, historians, performers, and makers. Collaboration across disciplinary boundaries is encouraged, both within our department and beyond. This teaching artist will help inaugurate a new facility, housing performance venues, production studios, offices, and classrooms, scheduled to open in the fall of 2023.

This incoming faculty member will contribute to vibrant undergraduate programs and a successful MFA program in costume. Colleagues will include three other design faculty and six production staff members, including a Costume Studio Manager, all of whom teach in our programs.

Duties include instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses from introductory to advanced levels; mentoring and advising of students; curriculum development; traditional and/or practice-based research in your discipline; service; and collegially contributing to the educational mission of the department and the university. Duties may include designing within the department’s season.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must hold a relevant terminal degree (MFA or equivalent by August 15, 2023). Successful candidates will have promise of or excellence in artistic, scholarly, and pedagogical practice, have prior experience as a costume designer in a professional or an academic setting, and have a commitment to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, identities, and levels of experience.

Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
