The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants from qualified individuals for an Assistant Professor or untenured Associate position in our Management & Organizations Area, with a school affiliation in our Nolan School of Hotel Administration. This position will have a focus in Strategic Management. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2023. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY. Rank will be determined based upon academic achievement and experience.

Responsibilities of the position include research in area(s) of expertise, primary teaching responsibilities in the Nolan School of Hotel administration, and service to the Area, School and/or College. It is expected that our faculty teach across multiple schools within the College of Business. 

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in the fields of strategy or a directly related field, with teaching and research interests related to strategy for hospitality travel and tourism industries. Potential areas of research focus include but are not limited to competitive strategy, inter-firm collaborations, entrepreneurial ventures, and innovation in service industries. The successful candidate is expected to establish a distinguished program of research and teaching in Strategy as it relates to the hospitality industry in the Nolan Hotel School. A previous background in the hospitality industry is not necessary, but it is expected that the candidate, over time, will align their professional expertise and research interests with the practical needs of the hospitality industry, broadly defined.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan School). 
The Nolan School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University is the top-ranked hospitality management program worldwide, with undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs.  The Nolan School of Hotel Administration has approximately 900 undergraduates and 160 graduate students. Founded in 1922, The Nolan Hotel School is an AACSB accredited business school, with a resident faculty of 55 and over 14,000 alumni worldwide. Important resources available to faculty include extraordinary access to industry leaders, excellent research funding, the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), and the cultural and intellectual resources of the Cornell University community. The Nolan Hotel School is housed within the SC Johnson College of Business, which includes the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. The college is one of the most comprehensive business schools in the country with 240 faculty and nearly 3100 undergraduate, professional, and graduate students.  

The combination of these schools into the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business allows Cornell to achieve the full potential of its business programs by integrating Cornell business faculty and students at all levels and coordinating programmatic collaborations that span Cornell's campuses. It helps advance Cornell's deeply rooted mission to apply knowledge for public purpose and to educate the next generation of leaders and creators to benefit society, solve some of the world's major challenges, and better serve the needs of New York State.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
