The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a lecturer position in our Marketing & Management Communications Area. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY and has an intended start date of July 1, 2023.

Responsibilities of the position are teaching management communication courses including “Business Writing for Hospitality Professionals,” a first-year core course in the Nolan School of Hotel Administration that emphasizes written communication in professional contexts and includes an introduction to presentational speaking in business. Each academic year, Lecturers teach five courses and hold regular, individual conferences with students to discuss the students' papers and presentations. Being accessible to students is critical. Lecturers teach multi-section courses and collaborate extensively on curriculum development; student assignments; School projects; and, at times, research projects.

Although candidates may be traditional academics or communication specialists from the corporate world, the most attractive candidate is likely to possess the following job qualifications:
  • Discipline-related master’s degree or Ph.D. in Communication or related field, preferably from a program that focuses on professional communication or rhetoric
  • Experience teaching in a four-year accredited college or university, preferably teaching multi-section courses
  • Experience and skill in teaching writing in professional contexts—and willingness to teach both written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in collaborating with colleagues.
  • Experience in business, as well as experience presenting at business, technical, or professional communication conferences
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration.  Teaching across schools within the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business may be possible, specifically in the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management and the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. 

The Nolan School of Hotel Administration is the top-ranked hospitality management program worldwide, with undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs comprising approximately 800 undergraduates and 60 graduate students. Founded in 1922, The Nolan School of Hotel Administration is an AACSB-accredited business school, with a resident faculty of 65 and over 10,000 alumni worldwide. Important resources available to faculty include extraordinary access to industry leaders, excellent research funding, the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), and the cultural and intellectual resources of the Cornell University community.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
