Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Engineering Science, at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, starting in August, 2022. The Engineering Science major is an exciting new addition to the College, now adding its second faculty line. We seek a candidate with energetic vision, creative thought, and collaborative spirit. To learn more about our current offerings, visit https://www.roanoke.edu/inside/a-z_index/math_cs_and_physics/engineering_science.

A Ph.D. in Engineering (including sub-fields), Engineering Education, or a closely-related field is expected; a Master’s Degree or higher with relevant professional experience is required. A successful candidate must have a strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate science and engineering-related courses in a liberal arts setting, in mentoring a variety of experiential learning opportunities, and in supporting efforts towards ABET accreditation. Evidence of potential for highly effective classroom teaching is required. The normal teaching load is six courses per year, with an additional course in our May term every third year. The salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the potential for being hired at the Associate Professor level dependent on previous academic experience.

Research with undergraduates in engineering is expected. Faculty members are expected to maintain an active research agenda appropriate to an undergraduate institution. Start-up funds, dedicated space, and ongoing support for research are available. Applicants should detail how their research would involve and engage undergraduates.

Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students. Women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply. We seek candidates with interests in mentoring under-represented students, diversifying curricular offerings, or sponsoring diverse community engagement. Applicants are asked to address their potential contributions in support of a diverse community.

To apply, please submit to the Academic Jobs Online system at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19946 a cover letter of application, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, unofficial copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts, and a statement of research interests. Applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation (at least one must directly address teaching) also to be submitted via Academic Jobs Online.

Review of applications will begin November 12, 2021. All completed applications received by that date will be given full consideration, and applications may be considered on a rolling basis that are received after that deadline. Questions about the position may be sent, through email, to the Department Chairperson at minton@roanoke.edu.
