The Experimental Neutrino Physics Group at the Instituto de Física Corpuscular (IFIC) welcomes applications for an open 2-year position as postdoctoral researcher to work on the double beta decay experiment NEXT, whose current phase concerns with the operation of the NEXT-100 detector at the Canfranc Underground Laboratory (LSC).

IFIC is a joint centre of CSIC (the Spanish National Research Council) and the Universitat de València. IFIC is devoted to experimental and theoretical research in particle physics, being Neutrino Physics one of the main lines. Our group participates in the NEXT and DUNE experiments, revealing the properties of neutrinos by means of the neutrinoless double beta decay and their oscillations, respectively.

NEXT aims at the competitive search for the neutrinoless double beta decay in Xe-136 using high-pressure gas xenon electroluminescent TPCs. After the successful operation of the NEXT-White demonstrator, the NEXT-100 detector (holding 100 kg of Xe at 15 bar) is being installed at the LSC. In order to reduce the impact of the cosmogenic backgrounds, the NEXT-100 TPC will be complemented with a muon veto system.

Our group has several leading responsibilities in NEXT, including the coordination of the physics program and the construction the muon veto for NEXT-100. During a first phase, the post-doctoral fellow will be in charge of the construction, installation and commissioning of the muon veto, with the support of IFIC and LSC engineers. In a second phase, the fellow will supervise muon veto operations and will play a leading role in NEXT-100 data analysis, with emphasis on the characterization and measurement of the cosmogenic backgrounds and on the neutrinoless double beta decay search.

Applicants are expected to have a PhD in physics and previous experience in instrumentation in particle physics. Specific experience on muon detection systems and data analysis for rare event searches will be highly appreciated. Interested candidates are invited to send their application, which should comprise a presentation letter, a CV and two letters of reference. Review of applications will start as soon as the first applications are received and will continue until the position is filled.
