Centered Design in the College of Human Ecology is seeking a Director/Lecturer

integrate analog and digital knowledge, tools, methods and creative processes
to address real-world challenges. They conceptualize, prototype and evaluate
products and processes that enhance human potential, wellbeing and community. Reporting to the chair of the department, the Digital Design and
Fabrication Studio (DDFS) Director and Lecturer will guide the strategic and
operational planning efforts for the Digital Design and Fabrication Studio and
Shops. This individual will oversee
facility operations and safety (create and maintain clear and effective safety
training and protocols), coordinate and plan course support with department
faculty, manage recharge rates and facility budget, supervise staff, and
oversee all student and faculty engagement with the facility. They will also
develop and implement its strategic direction to include innovation maker
space. In addition, this person will teach Computer Aided Design (CAD)
and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) courses. The successful candidate will
serve as the instructor of record and provide design instruction in both
workshop and classroom settings and will assist faculty in developing materials
and resources for courses. They will teach classes on basic tools and functions
of computer aided design software, help students master creative drawing skills
and understand various modes of communicating design ideas and presenting them. We are looking for a candidate with strong operations management
experience. Must be enthusiastic about
mentoring students with budding design interests, who is motivated about
working collaboratively with fellow design specialists across campus to create
an environment that fosters ideas and experimentation. The successful
candidate will be highly motivated with experience managing a cross-functional
team, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated
experience with design and fabrication practices. The position is a full-time, 12-month benefits-eligible,
non-tenure track academic professional. Salary is commensurate with experience

This is a 3-year
term with the possibility of renewal. Qualifications - Master’s Degree in design and/or
product development, architecture, engineering or related fields,
- 3+ years of experience supporting or managing a makerspace, fabrication lab, or
similar operation, ideally at an educational institution.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a
technical/teaching role with an emphasis on CAD and CAM teaching. Experience
advising and mentoring students.
- Experience with CAD / CAM tools,
technologies and software used in maker-space environments.
- Ability to teach the following CAD/CAM
software is important: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Rhino, Grasshopper, AutoCAD,
and Revit.
- Understanding of mechanical concept
development and design, rapid prototyping (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters,
etc.) and advanced manufacturing processes.
- Experience with equipment commonly
used in wood and light metal shop environments (e.g., band saws, scroll saws,
sanders, table saw, joiner, shaper, planer, CNC, with grinders, sanders,
bending, and cutting tools for light and small metal stock)
- Advanced understanding of safety
requirements and training programs.
- Excellent oral and written communication,
interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Supervisory experience preferred

Pay Ranges: The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
