Occupational Summary: The TIP Research Scientist will be involved in the department’s research activities as follows: 1. Work as a member of the Duke TIP research team taking part in ongoing research projects and program evaluation activities as well as developing and leading new research projects; 2. Assist with operational support to provide a research-based perspective to staff, families, and educators to support their individual and departmental endeavors; and 3. Assist with expanding awareness and understanding of research-based findings beyond the research community. This position reports to the Director of Research of the Duke Talent Identification Program. Qualifications: Doctoral degree in psychology, educational psychology, gifted education or related field is required with two to five years of postdoctoral experience in relevant field preferred.

Responsibilities: Develop and coordinate research activities aimed at influencing the field of gifted and talented research. Analyze pertinent data to identify current trends in the field of gifted education. Prepare articles and other publications that effectively communicate critical information impacting the field of gifted and talented education. Identify key areas in the field of gifted and talented education that warrant further research and consideration; work with the TIP research division to accomplish research priorities, design research studies, collect and maintain relevant data, and disseminate research findings through conference presentations and peer-reviewed journal publications. Cultivate and maintain relationships with organizations and experts in the field to further the understanding of gifted and talented students. Provide survey, statistical, and research-based assistance and support to operational staff. Help supervise Duke Students involved in TIP research. Preparation of grant proposals Recommend new methods for collection and documentation of data; write and revise procedural manuals as required Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Experience: • Experience publishing in scholarly journals • Experience working with secondary and longitudinal datasets • Experience collecting data

Skills: Expertise on research in talent development and gifted education, educational psychology, or psychology; conducting original research (literature review, design studies, data interpretation, reports); advanced quantitative data analytical procedures/software tools. Familiarity with programming in R and open science practices is preferred.
