The Duke Initiative for Science & Society is seeking an instructor or visiting faculty member to teach Clinical Bioethics and Policy during Spring semester 2019 (Jan-May).

Clinical Bioethics is one of the core courses of the MA in Bioethics & Science Policy, carries three credits and is taught as a once weekly seminar. The course is an examination of the leading issues in bioethics, especially those that arise in the context of clinical decision-making and the doctor-patient encounter. The focus is upon the ethical dilemmas faced by medical providers, patients, and their families: how issues are analyzed, what values are considered, and how disputes are resolved.  Topics may include end-of-life care; withdrawal of or refusal of life-sustaining treatment; pediatric ethics; transplantation and rationing of scare drugs or resources.

Previous experience in teaching the subject matter is highly recommended, although may not be required if the individual has the relevant professional experience.  We welcome the faculty member to remain in residence at Science & Society through the spring semester (and the following summer, if desired), although commuting to Duke for the course is acceptable.
