Artificial Intelligence Research Associate 
Duke Job Code 1361 

 Duke Law is seeking a full-time Research Associate (or 2 part-time Research Associates) to assist Professor Lee Tiedrich in work with the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) focusing on open data and algorithm licensing and other intellectual property issues relating to artificial intelligence. In addition to conducting research and helping to produce GPAI reports to be published in November 2022, the Research Associate(s) will have the opportunity to participate in GPAI IP Subcommittee meetings with experts from around the world. 

 The initial appointment will be through early November 2022, with an opportunity for extension, based on funding and performance. 

 Professor Lee Tiedrich is a Visiting Professor of the Practice at Duke Law School and a Distinguished Faculty Fellow in Ethical Technology with the Duke Initiative for Science & Society. She also serves on the Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) Multistakeholder Expert Group and is the co-chair of the GPAI MEG IP subcommittee. 

 The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence is a multi-stakeholder initiative which aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice on AI by supporting cutting-edge research and applied activities on AI-related priorities. Built around a shared commitment to the OECD Recommendation on Artificial Intelligence, GPAI brings together engaged minds and expertise from science, industry, civil society, governments, international organizations, and academia to foster international cooperation. 

 Qualifications
 • JD, preferably with 2-3 years of work experience in a related field 
• Strong Intellectual Property and Emerging Technology background 
 • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
• Full time preferred, but open to part-time. 
 • Available to start March 2022
