The University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Applied Science invites applications for an academic professional lecturer, at the Assistant, Associate, and/or Senior level at the Department of Petroleum Engineering. This position is for a one-year term, with an option for renewal, contingent on availability of funding and work performance. Applicants for this teaching position are sought with experience in one or more of the following areas of petroleum engineering: Production Engineering & Surface Facilities, Reservoir Simulation, Well Completions, and Unconventional Reservoirs, but all areas of expertise are welcome. Candidates from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses within the engineering science/petroleum core curriculum, as well as their specific area of expertise. In addition to teaching, our faculty can serve on various improvement-minded committees for the department and college, and participate in professional development activities throughout the year.

Current research emphases in the department include characterization of unconventional reservoirs, flow in porous media, and improved and enhanced oil recovery. The DrillSim 5000 drilling simulator significantly enhances the department's capabilities for instruction and research in many facets of drilling engineering. Our industrial partners have generously funded recent expansion of both our teaching and research facilities.

The department has a vibrant and ABET-accredited undergraduate program, with approximately 300 undergraduate students currently majoring in petroleum engineering. The department also offers graduate programs for both master and doctoral degrees, with over 50 graduate students currently enrolled. The department has ten tenure-track and tenured faculty in petroleum engineering and, as part of the University's Engineering Initiative, plans to recruit additional faculty over the next several years. The Engineering Initiative represents a transformational opportunity for the college to invest in its facilities, programs and aspirations. Faculty in the department work closely with UW’s School of Energy Resources, which has received over $150 million in state funding, to build world-class facilities for research and instruction.

Required qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree with industry experience in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated teaching ability in petroleum engineering or closely related field in an post-secondary academic position or recognized industry organization
Preferred qualifications:
  • PhD degree in Petroleum Engineering
  • Postdoctoral or industry experience in oil and gas-related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: production engineering & surface facilities, reservoir simulation, well completions, or unconventional reservoirs
  • Experience teaching post-secondary petroleum engineering courses
