A Postdoctoral Associate is sought to be part of the team of the “Illuminating Hidden Harvests (IHH) project.” The main duties of the Postdoc in this position will be (a) to support the PIs in the research and write up of data for publication. (b) Assume leadership for the day-to-day management of responsibilities of the Duke team in relation to the IHH partnership and implementation of the new Oak grant 2022-2023. This will include (i) support the production of materials and presentations about the IHH methodological approach and main findings. These activities will be conducted in collaboration and close coordination with FAO’s headquarters in Rome, as part of Duke University’s formal partnership with FAO. Materials and presentations will be tailored to a variety of audiences including IHH country teams, regional fisheries and UN organizations, and academics. (ii) Three IHH country teams will be selected for mentoring and training on the IHH methodology and the Postdoctoral Associate is expected to support these activities as well, and potentially travel to collaborate with these teams. (c) The Postdoctoral Associate will be encouraged to explore the IHH data as time allows and be welcomed to lead a publication that most fits their interests and career development goals.

The ideal candidate will have experience with the analysis of quantitative and qualitative data related to small-scale fisheries. Experience with different modelling techniques and coding with R software. Knowledge of the governance literature in relation to small-scale fisheries and data visualization techniques desirable. The ideal candidate will be working under the supervision and co-mentorship of Dr. Xavier Basurto and Dr. John Virdin.

Start Date: 
Ideal start date November 1st 2021 and no later Jan 3rd 2022.
The initial term of the appointment will be 12 months, with the possibility of extension for another year based on performance and available fund.

Location: 
Position will be able to work remotely from CA, FL, GA, MD, NY, SC, TN, TX, VA, DC; however they will need to be in Beaufort, NC on their start date and remain for a month. 6 months into the job another trip to Beaufort might be required for 2-4 weeks. Travel will not be reimbursed unless additional funds are identified.
