Instrumentation Research Associate BROWN UNIVERSITY Experimental High Energy Physics

The CMS group at Brown University has immediate availability for an instrumentation research associate. The successful candidate will be working in the research group of Profs. Ulrich Heintz and Meenakshi Narain. The group plays a critical role in the phase 2 upgrade for the outer tracker of the CMS experiment at the LHC. The group is carrying out R&D towards the construction of a new outer tracker for the CMS experiment and will be a sensor test and module assembly center during the construction phase. We are also pursuing an exciting physics program at the LHC, mostly targeted at searches for new physics beyond the standard model and Higgs physics.

We are specifically looking for an individual to take a leading role in our phase 2 upgrade program. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in particle physics or a related field. Candidates who have experience with research and development of instrumentation, including characterization of silicon sensors, assembly of instruments, CAD design of mechanical parts, electronic circuit design and assembly, computer simulations, analysis of test data, etc., will be preferred. The position will be based at Brown University with the expectation of some travel to CERN and Fermilab.

Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted online at For full consideration, applications should be submitted by 05/15/2021, but the position will remain open until filled. For inquiries, please contact
