Research Faculty Position in Mechanics of Materials

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications from outstanding individuals for a non-tenure track research faculty position in the field of Mechanics of Materials. This search will consider candidates having the expertise to join a strong research program in the Dynamic Mechanics of Materials Laboratory in the area of the mechanical response (deformation and failure) of materials over wide range of loading conditions, which includes testing, development of constitutive models, and applications in the manufacturing processes. This position will be expected to develop and sustain active sponsored research programs, advise MS and PhD students, and provide intellectual leadership and exhibit outstanding scholarship in their research field. Preference will be given to applicants at an assistant research professor level, but all will be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful applicant must have a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering in the area of solid mechanics with background and experience in one or more of the following areas: strain rate sensitivity of plastic deformation and failure with emphasis on dynamic loading and high strain rates; application of Digital Image Correlation (DIC) in static and dynamic loading in room and elevated temperatures; very high speed photography; high-speed IR technology; finite-element computations using commercial codes such as LS-DYNA and/or ABAQUS; and/or development of constitutive models for plastic deformation and failure. Experience in managing large government and industrial research projects is preferred. In addition, since the lab is involved in interdisciplinary research with other schools and colleges in the university (e.g. College of Dentistry), the candidate must have experience in interdisciplinary research.
