The College of Engineering at The Ohio State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Institute for Cybersecurity and Digital Trust (ICDT).  ICDT fosters collaborations among researchers from multiple academic disciplines to collaboratively develop solutions to complex cybersecurity and digital trust issues while augmenting existing academic programs with a series of certificates.

College:  The College of Engineering offers fourteen undergraduate and thirteen graduate programs in twelve departments or centers, as well as three undergraduate and four graduate degrees in the Knowlton School of Architecture, to approximately 10,000 students. The college has recently expanded its degree offerings with a BS in Engineering Technology available on the regional campuses of the university. The college is one of the largest in the field with more than four-hundred faculty. The college has fourteen National Academy of Engineering members and numerous members of societies and award recipients. In fiscal year 2020, the college had nearly $138.5 million in externally sponsored research expenditures. Industry R&D expenditures for the College of Engineering in fiscal year 2020 totaled nearly $44 million. 

The Institute for Cybersecurity and Digital Trust (ICDT) is a catalyst to bring together the multidisciplinary opportunities in cybersecurity education and research at Ohio State.  Faculty participate from across the university, including departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Political Science, Psychology, and Fisher College of Business. Cybersecurity is a growth area for investment at Ohio State, with strong support from Ohio’s economic development agency, JobsOhio, which seeks to expand this emphasis in response to an evolving economy.  Currently Ohio State offers continuing education cybersecurity bootcamps, and is initiating rich and deeply technical undergraduate and graduate programs in cybersecurity, including a cyber offense and defense certificate and a cyber design and implementation certificate that are expected to become part of a professional Master’s program. The Institute is also the home of the Cybersecurity Canon, a hall of fame of cybersecurity books and reviews managed by an international committee, initiated by Palo Alto Networks.  Our multidisciplinary faculty conduct world-class research in information, network, hardware, systems, and software security.  ICDT also acts as the OSU center point for the State of Ohio’s Cyber Range Institute and works closely with government and industry leaders on near term threats and attacks in collaboration through the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the oldest computing programs in the country and is a national leader in computing research and education. We create, teach, and actualize the principles that connect computing and society while advancing the forefront of foundational computer science into interdisciplinary realms. With current strength of 45 tenure-track faculty, the department is poised for a large-scale expansion over the next few years, starting with the search for 20 tenure-track positions this academic year. The department continues to raise its national and international research profile, as exemplified by the recent NSF awards for two AI Institutes and a Harnessing the Data Revolution Institute, netting a total of $55M in research funding. The department will continue to invest in creative and team science activities leading to ever increasing strengths in both foundational and applied AI while advancing traditional topics of computer science. The department is also developing innovative academic programs centered on AI and data analytics with various campus partners in topics such as cybersecurity, data analytics, digital health, and multimedia. CSE faculty closely collaborate with various centers on campus including the Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI), the Initiative for Food and Agricultural Transformation (InFACT), and the Ohio Supercomputer Center. CSE is vested in creating new and strengthening existing Diversity and Inclusion programs to provide an inclusive environment that will welcome all scholars. The department, through its growth, research prowess, academic offerings, and a welcoming culture, is poised to be the hub of computing scholarship and education on OSU’s campus.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering was founded in 1888 and today it houses three degree programs: an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Those degrees encompass over 940 undergraduates and 400 graduate students, with over 200 BS, 120 MS and 40 PhD students graduating each year.  Consistently ranked among the best in the nation, the department’s research encompasses the areas of computer and digital systems, computer vision/image processing, control systems, communication/signal processing, analog and RF electronic circuits, remote sensing, optics and photonics, nanotechnology/electronic materials, robotics/intelligent transportation, networking, and sustainable energy. This research is supported by roughly $20 million in externally sponsored funding. Along with other state-of-the-art facilities on campus, ECE’s 30 research centers and laboratories provide a world-class environment for learning and discovery.

Ohio State is focused on enhancing the health and safety of our community. Therefore, the university is requiring every student, faculty and staff member to be compliant with Ohio State’s COVID-19 vaccine requirement.  By the start of employment, all newly hired employees must receive at least the first dose of a two-dose series or a single dose of a one-dose series COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who choose a two-dose series vaccination must receive the second dose within 45 days of their start date.
